Power Steering
« on: 08 April 2005, 12:55 »
Hi

Could do with a little help. I have decided to fit my Jetta GTI 16V with power steering this operation was successfully performed with my Jetta TX that I used to own although things are a little different with this one as it has air conditioning fitted as standard. Mounting the pump is causing a few difficulties as the air con mounts where the power steering pump usually mounts. Any chance anyone out there has a 16V with air con and power steering that could provide me with a photo, diagram or any info on whats going wrong.

sorry don't really know about this, but if it was me i'd probably sell the air-con and fit the power steering instead!! not what you asked but hey, its the best i could do!!! power steering has got to be more usefull than air-con anyday?

It sounds like you don't have genuine aircon, aftermarket kits have the aircon pulley low down where the PAS bits need to be.

If you have a genuine kit you should have a different heater control pannel with no extra buttons to activate the aircon, and the passenger side dash under-tray should be smaller as well as the glove box, which will be tiny :)

It is genuine air con but it doesn't really matter now as the problem is solved. What doesn't really help matters is when you get the wrong information from the dealers. Got a print of from EKTA and it showed 2 different versions of air con fixings needles to say they were trying to get me to buy a bracket for well over £100 when it wasn't needed.
