A bit of both depending on which way the wind is blowing

I hope I don't come across as rude - unless I'm trying

Thanks for the info R-Tech. I have spoken with Jim, he has quoted me £399 for a stage 1 remap and he aswell said that depends on whether ur engine is up to the right condition etc. I'll have a think about it. I have worries i may need a new clutch soon after a remap.. theres no signs of problems as it is now but i have heard people getting them renewed due to the remap?

Not a problem mate that's what I am here for to advise and help members the best I can.  Just get him to check the vnt to feel if it's linear and smooth, as this is the biggest killer of TDi turbos.

If your worried about your clutch I'd get it checked out by a clutch / gearbox professional who knows VW's first.

Also depends on your driving style on how the remap introduces the power; if it delivers it in an OEM way then you should be fine; drive it like you stole it and you can kiss goodbye to it pretty quickly   Treat it right though and it can last quite a while.  Steve_PD has did 80K + miles on his original clutch with a remap

What mileage is your car on?

There is no way to find out what clamping force is left on the clutch, only way to to it is map the torque in increments and to steady state testing on the dyno.
