I feel like having a debate
With a European recession and general financial melt down getting worse
I'd beg to differ with this viewpoint. Europe and the UK have been out of recession for well over a year now. It's only the PIGS which are in a proper mess and they are hardly representative of the whole continent.
Free extras will only be warranted if the sterling exchange rate situation changes - there's not much point pushing sales of something with no margin in it.
Leon FR+ models which come fully loaded with everything you would need and can be picked up through brokers for well under £20k I'm going to shut up now as I'm fed up saying the above and I'm positive everyone else is bored of me harping on about it!
Nearly £20K for a Seat Leon - and not even the top model? Just a few years ago that brought you a brand new GTI, so evidently all cars have got more expensive, not just VW's...
Heart would say Cupra R, head would say FR+ Diesel.
Even with the over-exaggerated financial benefit of a diesel, I still wouldn't be able to justify one unless it was a company car doing 20,000+ a year.
Interesting points, and very valid ones. The recession is not over for the normal person in the street. It's getting worse. I have friends and family who work in retail and they tell me spending is down big time. Economy brands are very much in the sights of most buyers. In my workplace (huge and very established company) the work is dripping off like nobody's business, and it's still far and away the market leader.
As for your comments about a Diesel. Yep, I sort of agree with where you're coming from BUT you're an R driver. Someone who can happily spend £30 odd thousand on a shopping car. When I last visited the R forum someone had just put up a post saying they had driven about 150 miles to buy a pair of £500 shoes or something. So R drivers are hardly representative of your average person are they?

They are obviously recession proof people. 99% or the population aren't.
