just bought my gti, many moons ago i had a vr6 with a bmc cda, sounded awesome, is it the same deal on the mk5 gti as its not got the v6 roar or is it quiet. does it make any difference to performance?

That will give you a louder "sucking" induction sound. If you want your car to sound nicer you'll need an after market exhaust like a Miltek which is the exhaust of choice.
Have a full turbo back Milltek on mine and its sounds lovely. Its normal and quiet below 3k revs and comes to life when your really pressing on.
