312mm Upgrade or Keep standard?

Hi i need new brakes but deciding what to do is p-ing me off 

Money is quite tight as i would also like some jom coilovers, panel filter and new engine hoses.

So i was looking into the 312mm upgrade but stuggling to find the carriers for under £100 then was thinking today my car is only standard engine wise so is it really worth spending all that money? Or should i just buy some new standard ones with new pads, hoses and fluid. Was also looking at the vrs green calipers as they look nice and seen a couple quite cheap on ebay

I think going 312mm is a no brainer, I'm thinking about doing to my A4 as I don't think the standard size discs are that great compared to the 312 on my Golf..

Do it now as the cost isn't that much more on top of the new pads, hoses, discs and fluid.  I wouldn't bother with the VRS calipers, save your money for the suspension mods.

Can't you find any secondhand carriers cheaper?

Go for the 312mm set up.

If you want Green calipers, then smooth green hammerite is the same colour

If you go for 312mm disc then if you do decide to enhance the performance of the engine later at least you know the brakes will be already done and up for the job in hand. Plus the stopping power will be much better.

The only carriers i could find on ebay were way over £100 or you just get the odd one like left or right and by itself it is still £80+ which is a bloody joke lol.
Seeing how theres a set of discs and pads for under £80? Asked a few people braking the certain models for the carriers and they've all been sold lol

What are the best brake hoses to go for. Seen goodridge which are about £80? Any cheaper ones lol.

Also would i need to replace my caliper ( i know you dont for the updrage), but in terms of how old they are? Cars done 92k but have no idea about brakes lol so dont even know what happens to calipers

then just need to find the carriers. just going to have to keep trying really want them quickish though as i dont want to have the brakes for ages and not be able to fit them

Calipers are fine, are your flexi hoses shot i.e. are you changing them for a reason?

I'd go with OEM on the flexis, braided hoses aren't the be all and end all.

Erm no idea lol. All i know is that the discs defo need changing soon. The only reason is that i saw it on the 312mm upgrade thread. Said them and new brake fluid can make all the differnece for not alot of £££ 

Just emailed someone on ebay breaking a 2001 octavia vrs. Said he would do the discs, pads, calipers and carreirs for £200? That seem ok? Just asked for some pics and condition of discs.

Provided your flexis aren't damaged or the unions/ferules aren't badly corroded I'd leave the in place.  Refreshing the fluid should make a considerable difference and certainly worth doing if you don't know if it's been changed.  But first change to 312mm discs with new good quality pads and take the hydraulic system from there if required.  Keep the approach simple sensible and do it step by step, no need to blow all your cash on stuff you don't necessarily need, yet.

Do you have a proper pressure bleeder for when you change the fluid?  Please don't say Gunson Eezibleed.

Do you feel that the brakes aren't effective

I wouldnt want to start fiddling with the brakes or attempt to change them. I just feel like they are the most improtant part of the car so i wouldnt trust myself to change them 

Update: The guy is going to send me some pictures and said he could do the whole set up for £205 delivered? Which didnt seem to bad as i could always sell the discs and calipers on if they werent in the best condition. But they sound ok the car is a CAT b write off and damaged front wing. Apart from that the car looks quite good  Nice bright green calipers

Thats not a bad price. but have seen them cheaper.
