MOT failure?
« on: 07 April 2005, 14:53 »
I've had a minor leak from the fuel filler pipe (the bit down from the filler cap to the petrol tank), It only leaks when the amount of petrol in the tank hits a certain point. Will that fail the MOT?

Also, the wiring for dash illumination (behind the dials) has burnt out, would that fail, even though I've put in some temporary LEDs to light it up from the front?

Everything seems to be fine, apart from a rattling exhaust.

This is on a Mk2 Polo, btw.

Cheers

It should fail on the leaky tank, but I doubt they would notice it to be honest, unless the hole is really obvious.

Dash lights wont fail since you have temporarry lighting, as long as it works they can't fail you for it.  Besides I don't think dash ilumination is part of the mot checklist?

Exhaust should be fine as long as it isn't rattling and not insecure.

Thanks chaps.
I may replace the car before the MOT anyway.

I checked the MOT/VOSA website and it seems unclear whether they'd check dash illumination or not.

Oh well.
