chip or re-map, whats the differance?

so what is the differance between a chip and a remap or are they the same power increase just a differant way of doing it? which would be better 4 my mk2 gti 8v with 2.0 bottom end?

A remap is better if available however yours will be chip only and the gains if any are small.

yours would be chip only. would not bother for a 5bhp increase.

Because is has bog all electronic control on it. Concentrate on other things tbh.

A chip and remap are the same thing at end of the day, the software is getting edited (re calibrated / remapped)  So a chip is a remap at the end of the day, its just then method used to get the remapped software on to the ecu.  With a chip you have to open the ecu and remove the chip to write the new map to the ecu, then you have OBD remap which flashes the map via the OBD port in the car and no need to touch the ecu.

The chips are rubbish I got one and took it out same week smoothed engine buy no real difference on speed and it drank fuel :(

Rubjonny got good results with one, but that was on an abf. An ebay chip too.

I would avoid ebay chips tbh
