MK3 dashboard lights.....
« on: 19 June 2011, 18:28 »
ok I have a mk3 golf with standard dashboard, consisting of green backlight for speedo, rev counter etc.

I hate green, I want blue, Im guessing it's a filter not the actual bulb thats green, so how can i go about getting blue backlight? is it as simple as having a red bulb onto a green filter making blue? or can i remove the filter etc? if so, how?

I am just getting into the whole 'doing up my car thing' and thought this forum would be a good place to get advice.

  Cheers guys.

Welcome mate. First thing is have a search, been covered a fair few times. Depends what year and clocks are in your car tbh. Some have leds soldered into the clocks, some are twist fit. The lamps are all white, and your right about the filter. As soon as you remove the clocks, you will see the green filter. Just a strip of plastic along the top clipped in. Piece of piss to do, and if you have the twist bulbs, piece of piss to change them as well. Just remember to check they work before putting it all back together. Polarity has to be correct or they wont come on.

its a 1993 standard mk3 golf, nothing special about it at all.

standard, factory clocks (which I wouldn't mind getting rid of also), don't know anything about if the bulbs are soldered, I have a feeling they are twist and fit.

how do i go about fitting bulbs then? I could trawl through the forum for months but I hope ppl can help me, I am admittedly a novice at DIYing my car but willing to learn.

want to get this filter off, if thats the issue, where can I get blue filters for example?
