Surely if your skint you dont want to have to buy new discs? Nor do you really want to buy new discs that are for a 5 stud car either? Or am I missing something really simple here lol  .

280mm and 256mm calipers are the same it's just thecarriers that are different.
As I wanted to keep 4x100 on my mk3 to update them I used mk2 16v hubs,54calipers off an early mk3 golf or Ibiza with 280mm carriers off the same car.then used g60 discs and pads.
Unfortunately I've just give someone my 2 spare calipers or you could have had them for postage costs.

If you look for 256mm set ups people not in the know don't charge such a premium when they are intact the same g54 caliper as the 280mm ones.

Cheers for the replies folks.

I think I'm going to get my mate to see if he can tap out the broken bleed nipple and I'll fit a rebuild kit, tidy them up then.

I was speaking to someone who know's about these things and he said he thought that having had the calipes off pads out that when they went back in they aren't sitting exactly parrallel to the disc thus causing a sinking in the pedal.

So anyone recommend a decent caliper rebuild kit? Was looking at biggred.

What he said... Mine on the MK1 are from a Corrado g60 280mm, but the carriers are from an audi and i'm running 256mm mk2 valver discs.

I could get complete brand new G60 calipers and carriers for approx 160. I don't have 160.

Cheers for that, my mate is bringing me a pair sometime next week. Hopefully take the headache out of it, or most of the headache at least.
