Wheel refurb recommendations...
« on: 17 June 2011, 18:14 »
Hiya all

I sadly damaged my lovely anthracite BBS wheels the other day, on the nearside, due to not paying attention to the road camber and high kerb height when pulling into a parking space. As a result I need to get two wheels repaired of the kerbing damage I inflicted upon them poor dears.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get them repaired in the Northwest area... the closer to Liverpool the better. Never had to get my wheels repaired before so want to get them do by a quality place.

Cheers

That sucks, I feel for you. I know they're not in the North West but Spit and Polish have agents all over and will do a direct courier (www.spitandpolish.co.uk). Contact details are on their site, they're based in Kent but they will do an outstanding job. I'm doing a restore and rebuild on a Porsche 356C Outlaw and they've also sorted out a parking misdemeanour on a Monza for me as well. Don't get a roadside repairer to do it if you want it done properly and the BBS are originals.

Hi mate, try talking to Merseyspeed in Aintree for suggestions I'd ask for Alex and tell him Craig sent you

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will try em both.

Yes they are original BBS CK's and I want to get the job done properly.

Even worse news yesterday though... was rotating my wheels and noticed one of the rims has been damaged on the inside - bent out of shape slightly... now I know why I was getting a slight vibration through the steering wheel at high speeds and a very slow air leak. How this has happened I haven't got the slightest idea but I think I will need to get a new rim   Spent most of yesterday phoning around trying to find a dealer with stock and no joy yet. Plenty of 19" rims but no 18's. Grrrr, life can get frustrating at times!

If they can satisfy Craig or Alex, they should be good, though I have heard mixed things about S&S. Therefore, I'd stick with Craig's recommendation if I were you.

For BBS repair recommendations ask Exonian as he had his 19" ones tarted recently. His knowledge on wheels is second to none. I am sure he will be on shortly.

Another company to contact is Lepsons. Do a forum search and there are plenty of threads on this subject.

.......As if by magic......here I are.......

My CKs got done by a company local to me which is not local to Dave. They did a very good job by the way. http://www.southwestwheelrepairs.com/
I've managed to avoid both white vans and kerbs since by restricting my driving to motorways only!!

I'll vouch for SWWR who Andy has recommended, had my Leon ones done down there as my dad lives that way.
It is a fair way to travel but by god do they do a spot on job, will be having my current Leon done there in autumn :)

Thanks for the suggestions

Those ones down south are a bit too far away and as I don't have a spare set of wheels I would have to drive all the way down there and stay for a couple of days whilst they got repaired. Ain't got the time or money for that I'm afraid.

Need to get my wheel assessed for repair to see if it is possible. Keeping my fingers crossed there as if it can't be repaired then it's a new set of rims needed as I can't find anywhere that has the CK's in stock in anthracite. Rimstyle even went on to say that they aren't being produced anymore in that colour

Going to try Merseyspeed tomorrow for some suggestions as was too busy in work today to call them today.

When I was looking at getting 18'' CKs last year I was told by two suppliers that the anthracite ones aren't being produced by BBS anymore. It's a bit poor that there aren't a stock of spares somewhere for when odd wheels are required.

The only option really is to try and source a (preferably second hand) CK in silver and get it repainted.

Yeah, just got a reply from RimStyle saying that the can only get hold of the CK in anthracite in 19" and the 18" are no longer available 'cept in silver.

If my wheel can't be repaired then it looks like I will have to try the option you have suggested otherwise it would mean a whole new set of rims. Will let you know how I get on..
