HELP ELECTRICAL PROBELM!!!

hi

I've got a problem with my 1992 MK2 Golf GTi electrics. I've just recently bought the car and have noticed when I switch my ignition on and car is running the number plate lights stay on, the dashboar lights also stay on and its also possible to switch the front fogs on without the lights being on

Any ideas whats wrong??

Strange one that , check the wiring that goes from the body to the tailgate and the front doors as this can brake and cause shorts and back feeds.

First thing I'd do is swap in another headlight switch, make sure you get one of a late MK2 with the hazzard swtch on the column though as I think they are different to the early ones!

If that don't help take the dash under tray off and check for dodgy wiring around the ignition switch, could be someone has been fiddling to bypass a knackered ignition switch.
