In question to Mk1Macca's reply, isn't anything above 40% illegal in the uk?
I.E there selling it when it shouldn't be?

This is the impression I was under anyway.

I thought this aswell, but there's an offlicense by me that sells 80-something % absinthe, aswell as 93% vodka...bad times.

I think it all depends on whether or not it's sold as a drink...

I know it was illegal in France for AGES.

Used to drink this in Ibiza. The best i culd find for originality was Sebors http://www.seborabsinth.com/

Looks like its gone a bit commercial now looking at that site.
We used to light it and burn sugar in a spoon then stir it in and neck it.
As the alcohol burns clear, you cant see if you have blown it out or not so try not to set fire to your hat/face like my mate did

its legal to sell, but not serve.

the green is 75, the red is 85

france banned it but still sold 110 vodka, makes sense

dunno if you can still get them, but you could get it mixed in a bottle, green fairy, horrid stuff.

The traditional way to drink it is to drip water over a sugar cube over a shot, until the sugar is dissolved. Mixture is 1:5 of water, which should produce a cloudy white-ish drink. The water is used to bring out the additional flavours of the spirit, over and above the aniseed.

The shop i'm referencing is totally legit, so it must be legal for sale. Check it out if you're ever in london, it's amazing cavern of every spirit you can think of, stack floor to ceiling with huge varieties of each.
