Changed the CV joint today.. only took an hour.. one of the easiest jobs ive done (not the cleanest).. hopefully that will have cured the knocking on hard cornering

For anyone interested in doing it..

-remove centre cap on wheel
-use a 27mm IIRC socket on a very long wrench to loosen (do not remove) the main hub nut
-remove wheel and place under engine incase car collapses
-undo the rest of the hub nut and remove
-undo the trackrod end.. give a slight tap with a hammer and remove..
-then undo the 3 bolts holding the balljoint to the wishbone and pry wishbone off balljoint.. probably the wrong way but for me the easiest..
- you should then be able to pull the hub by brake disc or such and the drivehaft should just pop out of hub..
-remove old CV boot and 'knock' the old CV joint off with a plastic mallet should easily come away mine did.. (only held to driveshaft with a spline  )
-Clean up the driveshaft end..
-slide new boot over driveshaft end out of way.. Also slide the little plastic washer type part over driveshaft end till it stops..
-fit new CV joint just slide into position and i just gave mine a knock with my palm until it slid all the way to the plastic washer type part you fitted a second ago..
-put loads of CV grease (mine was provided) over the whole of the CV joint.. then slide the boot over the joint.. pull an edge back and put a bit more grease for good luck
-I then used 2 cable ties for the small end of CV boot and the 'ear' clip for the big end.. ( 'ear' clips are preferred but i didn't have a tool for fitting these well, i have one on the way now so will use 'ear' clips from now on.. Cable ties will not be grippy enough for the big end but are fine for small end as there is a slight dip in the driveshaft)
-Check to make sure you can move the joint with no binding etc..
-Refit it all together which is reverse of removal..

Job done sit back and cruise with no stupid knocking !!
