is it easy and cheap to lower a mk4 about 40mm all round

and whats the best stuff to buy

I'm thinking about a 35-40 mm drop too, any advice would be cool.  I've heard all sorts from having to change anti roll bars to it funking up your abs load sensors

40mm drop will be fine. I think its the late GTI's (2002 onwards) that have the bigger ARB's that foul the driveshafts when lowered past 35mm.

Same as lowering any car, shorter springs on standards shocks is okay, and cheap. Uprated shocks and springs is better, with adjustable coilovers being the best (but obv. most expensive)

thats funny i did mine today the fronts was not to nice to do the back it tolk 10mins lowered 35m looks just right. a bit stiff but stick like a train a tracks.

I've got -40mm Eibachs all round.  Quite a good ride - very firm with little roll.

Mines on 17"s, but this makes no difference to how low you can go, as you should keep the tyre profile correct
(225/17/45 or 225/18/40).
