Hi New member here,

I have a 3 door 8v anniversary am looking to get rid of, 112,00 miles, ive had it for 10 years and its served me well, needs a bit of work done to it mind you, reverse idles gubbed, 1 damaged foglight and couple of minor interier electrics dont work i.e back window de-mister.

was gonna scrap it but seems a waste, what you all think is best way to get rid, sell for parts or somthing?

cheers

Kenrik

Bet it has bent jacking points which are now rusty as fook, also rotten floor bungs.
Not seen a mint Mk3 in years.

Reckon Kells has the only one................

My 1996 5dr was fine around the jacking points and floor bungs

There are some with no rust but these are few and far between, yours was a nice example along with few others on this site.
My point is that I have seen so many adds for mint Mk3's and been very dissapointed when ive had a good look.
IMO they aint mint untill you take all the plastic off and have a look.

cheers for complimens ;-)

agree - removal of plastics is a must - i guess mine was just a lucky find. and iv done my best to keep it well since iv had it..

the 16v green one i had, was a good shell, however i did notice some rust on the bungs on the underside, one of which looked like it would need attention soon. iv noticed with the later cars theirs a alot less protection to what their is on early cars. i mean mine is full of the wax sealer stuff, bens has non of this on his 96 car

I think early ones do tend to stand up quite well, ive seen more J/K/L plates with (CL's etc) very little in the way of rust.
jacking points are a real weakness, once crushed they do rust through really quickly, spreading right up the sills.
Most tyre fitters jack on the sills and not on the correct jacking points Kwik fit especialy so.

its all about how they are looked after, and I recon the earlier ones got better treatment through the finacial troubles in the early 90's + a lot more wax in the factory.
VW relied on galvanising to much on the last ones, which if damaged is a choclate fire gaurd

Agree

it does not get any better for the new Vws, they just dont build them how they used to, i drive a brand new MK6 GTD a lot and it just does not feel like a golf. i cant get to love it at all.
What i mean is - will these cars last as long as the old golfs. They make these cars to cost these days, back when the MK1, 2 and early 3 were in production they were over engineered.. good for us, bad for making lots of ££££ for VW

New Mk6 does not even have paint in the boot etc, its just primer!!! imagine how much money this saves VW in paint. what else do they cut corners with :lipsrsealed:

Well look at how many rusty mk5s there are already. This is late 90s ford levels of rot!

Theres very little underseal on the mk6 too, people are actually recommending getting extra added its that sparse!

Stupid really. Have a 1997 GTi now and my 96 is deffo a more solid shell and host no rust at all.

Proper weird actually makes me wonder if my 1.6 shell was made and left for a while. Has all the protection my '92 had the 97' doesn't.

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.
