Fan not kicking in, what to check?
« on: 12 June 2011, 21:44 »
Since doing my 20vt conversion my rad fan has never come on. I'm fairly confident that the wiring is good as the section the rad plug is on didnt really need much doing to it so other than faulty wiring what could I check? engine running temp is normal, it gets up to 90 (middle of the guage, is that 90?) pretty quickly and stays there never seen it go above this, and its running nicely just a bit of spluttering sometimes when cold but thats something else that needs to be looked into

Only worrying about it now as my m8 who has an ed30 (which is for sale if anyones interested ) says his fan comes on all the time. I've never run a turbo b4 so not sure how often its supposed to come on  :undecided:

any advice appreciated cheers :)
20vt conversion, sig pic coming soon!

Short out the plug for the thermoswitch. It'll have one live, one for low speed and one for high speed. Find the live and short it with either one of the speeds. If the fan comes on then the wiring is good and it's the thermoswitch at fault, which costs under a tenner if I remember correctly
