My Marathon Mk1 Caddy Project
« on: 12 June 2011, 14:22 »
Hi guys

I'm new on here.
I've owned Vw's on and off over past 20 years.
My first one was a rot box of a lemon, blotchy yellow with mainly brown (rust) VW Derby, which really ought to have put me off Dubs for life!
After various Brit cars I finally came back to reality with my first Gti 16V. aaaah, Home Sweet Home :-)
Corrado's and an awesome Rallye G60 were the highlights.
Life then spits a curve ball at me and i end up in hospital and out of work for couple years.
Now I find myself owning a Mk1 Caddy converted to take two wheelchairs in the lowered bed.
What an odd ball car. never thought i'd end up in this, uncool machine.
dad had a stroke a few years back and he's ended up in a special home that can cope with severed disabilities.
So, my mission, once I saw my 'Popemobile' on ebay, was to renovate it to my spec, to include little touches, in homage to mum and dad, yet at the same time giving me my fix for VW's.
So, with the help of a few local firms who are assisting me in the rebuild, I'll be driving the Caddy to the VW factory and museum in Wolfsburg this september, where i'll be
competing in the 6th annual Marathon.
I'll be raising funds for The Stroke Association, specifically to buy more special beds and stroke therapy chairs for Appleby court care home where dad now lives.
I've set up a secure online donation webpage with online charity stalwarts, Justgiving.
www.justgiving.com/peoplescar

Please take a look at my webpage and even if you can only manage £1.... if i collect enough £1's we can make some of my dad's neighbours a 'LOT' more comfortable.

I also look forward to checking out what this forum has to offer, as I'm a bit of a newbie really to the whole forum scene.
I've always wanted a Mk1 Gti, and maybe one day I will, but until then at least the front end of my Caddy feels like one, so long as i don't look in the rear view mirrors!

Welcome to the forum....  late response as a lot of us have been away at a show.  You should keep us updated with anything MK1 related you're up to... Sorry to hear you've had a rough time but hey, you've got the right machine for the job and you've still got a mk1 so that's cool.

Good luck with the fundraising. :afro:
