Had the same prob on my ABF tansplant mated with a box from ebay. My lack of drive I suspect is
the box is an 8V job (but advertised as 16V) and must have a smaller spline. I think my output shaft is just spinning round inside my 16V clutch

Bummer as I had the whole engine box installed and was just doing final hook up when I noticed the problem whilst trying to get the engine to TDC by turning road wheel with car in 1st.

So mismatched clutch is my guess. My case was 16V flywheel clutch mated to an 8V gearbox.

I should have guessed something was up when the box fitted sweetly with no hassle

Lesson learnt tho boys. Always check the gbox code (16v is 02y) and maybe offer the clutch up to the box input shaft and check it marries up... Not taking the mick, but wouldve saved a lot of time and heartache-hind sight hey. I've had my engine/box out 4 times in the last year, so don't worry about it, you'll be rapid @ doing it by the end!!

I measured the input shaft with a steel rule, my digi vernier I couldn't find when I needed it.
Also the clutch was fitted and aligned nice so didnt want to disturb that..

I got cross eyed counting the splines, gave up by 10

Never mind the 2Y box that came off is going back on with some new seals/bush etc..
I'm pulling the whole lot back out on Sat.

And the box I have has a 95 date code. Box code I forget now but it didnt come up on any searches I did.

I spent ages cleaning the flipin box. It was badly painted in silver so had little choice to scrub the thing and repaint it
, this time in gloss black. So watch out Ebay it's comming back, but this time advertised right.

95 doesn't sound right for an 02y? Isn't it ddmmy (making 5 the year) but that would be '85 or '95 the 02y (16v) being neither?
