hehe. I only just got the car 3 weeks ago. gotta get the bonnet and rear drivers side door resprayed. they have been resprayed sometime in the past to a pretty poor standard (patchy marks).

Also got the most annoying rattle/vibration sound coming from the front as if there is a leak everytime i accerate. i have had the exhaust system replaced all except the downpipe. Have bought a new downpipe and will get it fitted this week. i really hopes it solves the issue.

The car is pretty good. girlfriend has got a golf convertible mk3. And my next buy is gonna be a vw camper.

got to admit when i bought my golf there was a leaking exhaust noise coming from the front, i hoped that it was after the cat but i think it is probably the same problem as yours
keep me posted on the result of your change
an exhaust centre said it wasn't the down pipe but i know damb well the down pipes are a b!tch to change so i'm guessing he was fogging me off because it was first thing on a saturday morning, you probably know the place BOBS TYRES AND EXHAUSTS
so anyway the noise is slowly getting worse and the car is getting slower because of the reduced back pressure with a decrease in fuel econ
maybe i'll see you zipping about stevenage sometime
cheers jay

hi mate, had a new downpipe fitted today and thought i would tell ya the end result. Its cured the awful noise. the car sounds sweet and crisp. got formula one to fit it this morning.

The noise on the old downpipe was due to the spring section which bolts to the manifold being worn over time. so it would rattle due to the vibration of engine.

so i am now happy
