New Motor
« on: 05 April 2005, 11:54 »
Hi all
My head gasket just gone on my old mkii so have just bought a 3dr mark 4 gti 1.8T. I am picking it up tonight and am very very excited. Its done 64000 miles, full cream leather heated seats ect, its a pearler.
Just wanted to know when the cam belt will need changin, how much it costs (approx) and if their is any thing that i need to look out for. Any advice would be greatly recieved. Oh and how do you make the little beasts go a bit better. Alot of reviews that i have read say their a bit flat/underpowered.    many thanks jode

My 1.8t is about to hit 60k and i'll be getting my cam belt done then

I started a thread on here not so long ago and it was suggested that this was done together with some other things at the same time which would make it all a lot easier

Thanks for that, i will be getting it done soon then.
Picked car up last night and i am well pleased. It feels really tight and responsive. I think it will take a while to get used to engine, it responds totally different to my old mkii. It feels good though. The suspension is well firm. It has engine code AGU ENJ. Is that a good thing or bad. Dont think it has ESP or traction control. not sure.

Only fault is an annoying rattle coming from the rear parcel shelf, drivers side. Will investigate at weekend.

Took me ten minutes to work out how to open fuel cap
