Engine Swaps
« on: 05 April 2005, 08:55 »
I know it prolly been covered a hundred times, but the forums search doesn't seem to work at the moment.....

What is the most simple engine swap for my MK2 8v, The Mk3 2.0 gti?

Does it just bolt straight in?

I have the time, the money and the spanners, I just want an easy life.

Good question - I'd like to know the answer to that too.  Also, the mk3 16v uses digifant2, like the mk2 8v.  Wonder if it is possible to bung the 150bhp 16v lump into a mk2 8v and use the same fuelling system?

You'd probably have to change the gearbox to a mk3 cable change one though wouldn't you?

Thats another question..... I have a GOOD 8v recon box in the Goof at the moment, would it fit the 2.0 8v Mk3 motor?

Well i had a mk2 with the 2.016 Mk3 ABF engine in. Unfortunatly i did not do the conversion. I wouldent of thought you could use the loom from a mk2 digi though. Mine had the ecu from a mk3 ABF in which im pretty sure you need as the engine is very different from and 8v. Mine also had the cable change gearbox from a mk3 not a mk2 8v.

if you just want an easy life then get a 2.0 8v bottom end and bolt it in place of your 1.8 8v. everything fits same as

So I'd just stick my 8v head on it and it would just drop straight in, no faffing with custom engine mounts or anything?
