Hesitation/Missfiring Edition 30 :(
« on: 09 June 2011, 08:09 »
I've noticed over the last few weeks that my beloved Edition 30 seems to be hesitating under load or under reasonably hard acceleration. Yet today it has been pretty bad! In 6th gear at 50-60 when i accelerate you can feel the car hesitating quite badly, and at low speeds when i put my foot down a bit the same thing happens.

It is a 2008 with a BYD engine and 38K on the clock. I read another post about coil pack problems and them being changed for free as there was a known problem but my engine code and coil packs were not those listed as suffering with a fault.

I'm pretty sure it's a coil pack and not the MAF, but how do i find out which coil pack it is? Will a diagnostic check pick it up despite there being no engine light on? If it is a coil pack how much do they cost?

I should also add that it seems to be a pain starting in the mornings. You'd expect it to fire up immediately but it takes a few seconds. Could it even be plugs?

Thanks

Points straight at coil pack / plugs.

Get it VAGCOM'd and it should show up as being intermittent.

Otherwise, it's time to remove a coil pack one at a time and check them. Do it engine off when you remove though as they can give you a mighty shock, then turn the engine on and see if the engine note changes or not. When it doesn't you've found your dodgy coil pack.
