I've had bad experiences with inphase stuff in the past. Subs, amps, components lasting under 6 months. Not sounding great compared to other brands. They are a budget brand and there is better out there for the same money. Fusion, Vibe, JBL all much better than inphase mate.

Comps = component speaker.

A component speaker set is a set of different size speakers, with a crossover which sends each particuliar speaker the optimum frequencies for it to receive.

For instance. The HU (head unit) sends out 20Hz-20kHz along down the speaker cable. Now if you tried to play 20Hz through a teeny tiny tweeter it would die. It's designed to play from around, say 5kHz. The crossover stops any frequencies under this particuliar point reaching the tweeter. Instead it send them to the other speaker in the set. A midrange for instance, whic is able to play between 60Hz & 5kHz.

Co-ax is basically a comp in one unit. You'll notice it has a little tweeter on the front of it. It'll also have a built in crossover to protect the inbuilt tweeter.

Generally the bigger the speaker the lower the frequencies it prefers to play. Hence the reason subwoofers are normally a lot bigger (10-18inchs generally) than full range speakers (normally between 8 & 4inchs).

When you buy a set of comps you'll normally have 2x bigger speakers (mids), 2 tiny speakers (tweeters), 2 crossovers (little device to split frequencies between speakers).

Thanks buddy, that clears a few things up a bit

Would these be better than the in phase ones? I actually quite like the yellow for some reason

Personally I would get Infinity speakers but may not fit your budget.
But may do, shop around.
Check the caraudiodirect link down in the Deals and Discount section as they give free delivery which will help with costs!

Components - 2 speakers one is a tweeter, the front one is in the dash and the rear is just above the door grab handle. The other is a mid/bass whish is 6.5 inch and goes in the doors.
In between the two speaker there should be a crossover, a little box with connectors. This is to seperate the  frequencies, the higher going to the tweeter and the lower to mid/bass.

Riiight okay, so you know with regards to the component sets, do those tweeters go inside the dash and replace the originals in there and/or do they go in the ones next to the door grab handles in the rear doors?

Those pioneers are a good illustration of what I meant about the surround with cut outs.

Components would replace both the mid and the tweet. The beauty of after market is you can put them where you want. I have replaced the tweets and put the new ones in the standard location before. It worked well.

Any reason you picked those co-ax over some components?

B-chi - Ermmm no reason really just thought that might be what i needed, but it seems i could be better off with component speakers... :undecided:

Len - Cheers for clearing that up

So what swould be the best to go for then co-ax or comps?

Here are two sets of comps, what would be better out of the two of them? (I would be getting two sets of these - so that all of the speakers are nice and fresh):

                                          OR
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8493.html

Oh yeah how come in the 6.5" section the woofers diameters range from 16cm - 16.5cm - 17cm... they cant all be the equivalent as 6.5"... or am i missing something?

Cheers guys

Components are better because they have seperate tweeters which are mounted up higher than the mids.
Its better to get the higher frequencies up nearer ear level.

Ahh right, yeah that makes logical sense cheers Len.

Looks like im going for components then, so which of the above are the best, I think the kenwood ones, but... :undecided:

In that price range, with the supplier these

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/9119.html

Then get yourself over on talkaudio as a genesis dealer has an ex demo series 2. 2x80wrms.

That combined with those speakers could sound lovely and for under £150 as well.
