1.8t or 130 GT TDI mk4 ???
« on: 08 June 2011, 07:48 »
As above, what you think...

What power can be achieved easily from the PD without spending too much, £400 max? I know you can get 230bhp with the 1.8t without spending a lot..

My mileage has gone up so looking at a cheap diesel for the time being..

Depends what you are looking for,

If you do high miles then obviously the TDI but of course these cost more, If only drive occasionally then I would say 1.8T.

I have had both, my 2002 GT TDI I sold for £4650. I then bought a 2000 GTI T for £1850 so as you can see a huge difference which would take years to make up in diesel savings, plus I hated the diesel sound.

^^^^As above

Expect to pay a lot more for the diesel!! Especially as you're after the most desirable 130PD model! :undecided:

You say your mileage has gone up so I would say 130 TDI. Remapped to 170bhp it will be plenty quick enough for everyday driving.

One thing that people forget about is the difference in spec between the 2 models though. The 130 TDI is based on the 2.0 "GTI" so will come without 16" wheels, sports suspension, 3 rear headrests and seat belt and dodgy wood trim. 150 TDI's are the same spec as 1.8T GTI's.

Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I also forgot to add that the TDI 130 has a gearbox with the proper amount of cogs in it.

6?? Terrible fooking thing IMO, more so when remapped as half the gears become useless

I think a 1.8t it is then...

Been looking in the classifieds and there's some right bargains. Whats sorta budget would i need for a decent clean 1.8t circa 95-100k miles?

Preferably an AUM (is this the fly by wire engine?)
