Mk3 Wheels..
« on: 07 June 2011, 19:00 »
Hi, I'm new to this scene i'll be perfectly honest.

I was a saxo owner.. then things went pear shaped and one thing and another.. i now own a MK3 Golf Estate (1.9TDi of course!! <-- logical choice)

after spendin only £200 ish, ive done some subtle mods, coilovers, lights, bonnet bra etc.
but now i've an issue with wheels.

first of all.. i don't understand this 7J and ET45 melachy.. it confuses the hell out of me  :undecided: .
all I no is, i want sum steelies.. that are wide.. but not too wide.. 13" ish, and will fit.

can any1 explain to me, how i simplify this into an advertising statement for some wheels?! lol
p.s. i only want 2 for the rear

cheers

Good choice.

Am I right in thinking that you want 13" wide steels or 13" diameter steels?

Either way, weller steels make wheels to order.

13" will never fit!
10" is asking for trouble lol
I would put a 2" band on some steels

The j number corresponds to the width of the wheel as in the bit the tyre sits on so a 7 j wheel is 7 inches wide an 8j 8inches wide a 9j 9inches wide, you get the idea.
Et corresponds to how far the wheels sits underneath the arch so for example on a mk2  the factory Et is 35 so a wheel with ET 35 would be nicely tucked inside the wheel arch where as an ET of 15 would sit proud of the arch as in stick out slot more,as a rule the lower the ET number the further the wheel will sit proud of the wheel arch, playing with ET can make a car look more aggressive and is what is commonly done is putting a lower ET on the rear of the car to push the wheels out also known as poke
And a higher or standard ET on the front to pull the wheels under the arch which is known as tuck!
I hope this makes more sense to you now and I've not just completely confused you

You want 13" wide rear wheels on a Golf?
A 911 GT2RS only uses 12" wide rear wheels to deploy 650 BHP...and you want wider wheels...on a FWD Golf?

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Given he said not too wide, and 13"ish.

I'm guessing what he wants is 13" diameter steels, with decent width ~7/8".

I personally wouldn't run 13s on a mk3, far too small unless the sills are half inch off the floor.

1990 mk2 GTD, boost, fuel, soot
16v GTi mk3; chilli red, 16" Audi Speedlines, coilies

15" is about the smallest wheels you want on a mk3.
