sticking caliper
« on: 05 June 2011, 20:38 »
Hi all,

my front passenger side caliper is sticking so today purchased a caliper retraction tool and set about the car. took caliper off cleaned a ring of rust off the edge of the piston, used the tool to force the piston back in, pushed the brake pedal a few times to get the piston to move out then repeated the process a few times. I also cleaned all the crap of the slider pins and copper slipped them up and then put it all back together.

Took it for a test drive to discover that bugger all has changed and the disc is still getting very hot.

Is there anything else i can try before i fork out for a new caliper?

cheers

Not really, as a long shot you could remove the piston and clean it and the housing with fine wet and dry.

Have a look on flea bay for a company called big red, they do pistons and seal kits which is cheaper than renewing calipers, i did, my seals recently but on a spare set of calipers as mine was doing exactly the same and it was corrosion inside the boot on the piston, but beware the boots are a mare to fit.
