What plain discs do people recommend then? I find my standard discs and pads leave a lot of dust. Could be because they need doing.

Ds2500 are racing pads aren't they? What about normal driving and a bit of fast road driving now and again?

Been running plain old vented discs and Ferrodo DS3000 and DS2500 pads on both my 911 and Golf.  Recently replaced the discs on the Golf with some Zimmermans from GSF, I compared them to their cheaper option in store and the quality of finish was far superior to the cheaper version.  They weren't too much more money either.  They also come with a coating over the whole disc, obviously this wears off on the actual friction surfaces but everywhere else it stays on and helps prevent them from going rusty.  Seem to be holding up pretty well so far.

With the DS pads you can get some squeel.

Cross drilled either get dusted/rusted up and eventually crack, certainly more show than go.  Also not sure what gases would actually build up when you apply the brakes either, what actually generates this so called gas, what is it and why wouldn't it dissipate effectively anyway?

One thing that I have always believed in is surface area and disc thickness, the thicker and bigger the disc the more heat will be allowed to dissipate through the material far more effectively than holes or grooves.

Gas production and dissipation use to be on old brakes due to the compounds they where made from. Modern pad materials don't do this. It's one of them things people still go on and on about without realizing times have changed.

As said grooved discs do not really benifit you much and are a waste off money IMO. Drilled are a complete waste, I have seen so many crack under hard use.

The feraddo pads are the best IMO but they do cost a bit which is the down side, but they will not disappoint. I have never been a fan off the pink, red, yellow, purple green stuff never understood what the hell was the hype apart from the food coloring. Either go stock or go all out, I am running a Mintex setup at the moment which seems a slight improvement and a better bite, but I can still smoke and bake the pads under heavy driving, but for n0bbing around and normal use they are spot on.

What mintex discs and pads are you using mate? Nobbing around and normal driving, that's the setup I need

Just a front mintex disc and pad kit off ebay, Payed around £65...

What do you do with the car, do you plan to track/race or it's just your daily road car.  Motul RBF 600 or just factory spec stuff from GSF.
