Grrr... p*ssing droplinks
« on: 04 June 2011, 13:12 »
Eibach bar was rubbing a fair bit on the front so decided to angle grind droplinks down after borrowing a bush (cheers Wes ) after losing mine.

Took drop link off, angle grinded the internal threaded bit to the height i wanted, looked in and found out they are not threaded all the way through

Now have to get it helicoiled which im not sure will work as the hole isnt that tight over the thread, or chop and weld some original ones.

Not what i was hoping for

Also found out my inner CV joint is screwed

completely dont know what to do. Persevere with the Eibach ARB and buy some more droplinks and cut them just a little bit shorter to try and solve the problem, or stick the TT bar back on meaning taking all that bloody subframe back off.... again

MOT in 2 months so have to decide soon

After reading through about 300 pages on about 100 different forums, it comes to the conclusion that with the Eibach bar i have, i cant go over 50mm.

Looks like it il be coming off and the TT bar going on there for the second time

Really had enough with dropping subframe, and joy of joy i will be able to sort my inner CV joint out while im down there. Fantastic

I LOL'd when I read this Dave. The bore is different halfway through and is not threaded all the way through I know this as I shortened S-L-I-X's drop links and fitted them on here to discover the same thing. Luckily I have an ARC welder and was able to re-weld them as it's only mild steel.

I chopped the threaded bit in half, angle grinded the bottom part (non tapped end) then welded the tapped end back on.

In short, been there, done that, got the t-shirt and LOL when other people find out the same thing due to people not spreading the word.

Weld it, it wont take more than 5min consider its galvanized steel and rods for mild steel are so cheap I can't see a garage charging more than £15 tbh. I used 3 rods in all if I recall correctly also expect a PM your way .

You got any pics of your finished product by any chance? Think mine need to be about 3 1/2 inches center - center..

Got in contact with my mate on here. He quickly just took a photo its a bit poor due to lighting and he never had a torch wherever he was dogging. Hope this helps:
