New heater matrix cleaning.
« on: 03 June 2011, 21:54 »
I've read on various threads regards changing heater matrixes, and a couple refer to cleaning them prior to fitment as they stink otherwise.

Any ideas what I should wash the outside of my new one with? Is washing up liquid ok?

I don't think a semi will give the same results

I wouldn't wash it with washing up liquid, it contains salt, salt and ally mix is not a good idea,
I fitted mine a few years ago, and never bothered cleaning it, once fitted, it just gave a hot and new smell for about half a day... so what!

I left mine but beware it did start smoking through the vents and I thought we were on fire...

You'll clean it, fit it, and it will still smell

True. Use car shampoo as it should be salt free, unlike washing up liquid. I used car shampoo, gave it a bit of a swish about in a basin with hot water. beware of using a sponge or similar at the fins are delicate.  It probably helped a lot, as it only smelt slightly.
