Best hand tools to tackle rust

I'm gonna be tackling some rust soon on my mk3, got all the paints filler and sandpaper ready but I'm not sure what to initially use to tacking the rust. I know the best thing to do is use a grinder, but I dont have access to any power tools, and tbh cant afford to go out and buy any just for this job. What would be the best hand tools to use to get the rust back to metal ready for treatment and filler/paint?

If its pitted rust you'll need something you can get down into the metal like a set of files.
That is if you can get to all the bits with a file.

Failing that some large grit emery paper and get as much as possible off then use a chemical rust inhibitor. Kurust used to be a trade name, though there are some newer products around now.

Cheers yeah its all fairly accessable, mainly around the arches and a bit around the edge of drivers door

The best thing to do if your not going cut the rust out and weld and new pics of metal in is to get hold of a wire wheel to attach to a grinder, this will remove almost all the rust with out taking any metal away, then you need to Kurust the area

I run my own body shop and find this the best method if your not wanting to weld new metal in, there is still a chance of the rust coming back but this all depends on how well the treat the area

Think you can hire a grinder for a tanner too mate
