Possible new car, which one?

Since having an accident in my KO4'd 1.8T at the start of April, I have been using a black pug 206 to get me around, now its time to sell the french pile of s**t. When thats sold, I will have a budget of around £1500. However, the dilemma is what I should get next, so far I've come up with the options, preferably I would like something with a bit of power that is possible for a 20 year old to get insured on, here are the following that I've shortlisted to become my possible next car:-

a) BMW E36 328i Sport (coupe) 193bhp, RWD - with a 325 inlet manifold will produce 220/230bhp
b) Volvo C70 T5 (coupe) 240bhp, FWD - dont laugh, easily remapped to 280/300bhp
c) Toyota Celica GT4 ST205 (coupe) 250bhp, 4WD

Obviously, i will only be considering manual versions of the cars listed (autos are boring )
The cheapest of the above on insurance is the 328 sport, costing an extra £250 over the last 6 months of my policy, secondly the T5 at £270 over the remainder, then lastly the GT4 as expected at £330. The price of insurance may have to be taken into consideration when purchasing a car.

have any of you ever owned one of these? if so, what did you think of them?

if you havent owned one of these, which would you pick?

and if anyone has any other ideas or suggestions of a car to buy around £1500, please nominate them now?! 

i am looking for something quick with good handling (e.g 328i or GT4) or rapid in a straight line, but no so good handling (e.g C70)

I love the Celicas but they are like old Scoobys, they have all been ragged within an inch of their lives. BMW for me all day long.

to be fair, any of those for that budget will be a nail, and will need cash spending to make it half decent again

if i was 20 i'd be thinking a bora diesel, get some coilies on and have some cheap motoring. If you want any of the above i'd wait til you've got max ncd and more dollar to splash out.

those three will break in the first year and more than likely cost more than your budget again to repair.

have you thought about pug 106 gti? saxo vts? or similar nippy, good handing hatches?

If he has got that insured, Im assuming insurance isnt an issue for him.

hate diesels i must say, and my insurance isnt an issue - they will insure me for a year for around £900 on E36 328i sport, 3 years driving, 1 years NCB

I must say i disagree with the fact that they will be nails - alot of E36's around for £1500 with FSH and lots of paperwork/receipts, 100k-140k on the clocks, that still run quietly and nicely. My mate picked up a 325i for £650 with about 150k on the clock, engine was fine, bodywork not as good. Im not too fussed about bodywork, i know people who can sort this easily.

T5s can be picked up for £800 as well, high miles, but no problems with the engine. Dad has one (V70 T5) 130k and no issues whatsover.

My 1.8T had 135k on the clock, but drove perfectly. I think people make too much of an assumption with high mileage being no good, when its quite simply not the case.

Did test drive a 328i E46, bodywork was pants, but engine 120k and sooo quiet.. guy only wanted £1500 for it. there are some nails out there, but if you find one thats been looked after there shouldnt be any issues.
