Suspension, strutt, drive shaft rubbing?
« on: 03 June 2011, 09:33 »
Just ebing lazy really, will have a look on the weekend but heres the story:

Fitted coilovers 2 weeks ago, not stupidly low, everything was fine, im getting adjustable drop links to stop the drive shaft rubbing,

But when the car hits a hump or dip in the road especially on left hand lock theres a grinding / scraping noise,  its not the sump or plastic tray,   there is some rubbage on the right hand arch, but this sounds like metal on metal!  :undecided:

adjustable drop links wont really do much tbh... need an uprated arb with bigger hoops or one that goes under the driveshaft.

lol I have my suspension back to standard now and what a difference the drive feels. Feels so much better than the coilovers i had (JOM). Shame its being traded in monday!

The after market drop links are not that much short TBH, change the ARB is the best bet depending on the drop. As its the ARB where it hoops over and bolts that catches the drive shaft. The coilovers you have also make the difference in how often you catch/rub different parts, stiffer ones will catch less due to less movement such as JOMS.

You could get abit more clearance if you chop and shorten the drop links but be prepared to weld them as they are only tapped 50% and the untapped section has a wider bore meaning a new thread cannot be made.

What? You are saying a stiff firm ride is less superior to a nice bounce body rolling chassis?

mk4 r32 arb has the larger hoops you want. Not sure what the price is though.

Upto you if you want to wind up it leave it ad it is. I travelled several months before I sorted my problem out and the damage done was minimum

No

The R32 and 4Mo bars as well as the Whiteline are under mount bars rather than hooped. Also MK1 TT iirc? So it doesn't matter how low you go they won't foul the shafts.

The Whiteline can be had from Balance motorsport for about £120
