Newbie needs direction
« on: 02 June 2011, 14:46 »
Hi guys

I've had my MK5 2 weeks and I have the itch to start tinkering.

I definately want to replace the RCD300 as its a bit of a lemon so any suggestions welcome.

I'm also looking to maybe squeeze a few extra horses out.

TIA

Sorry its a GTI 2.0TFSI.

I had been advised to go for the Bluefin. Anyone gone this route can vouch for it?

Stereo wise you will not beat the Pioneer Avic F9110bt and it is made for VW with the surround trim already in place!

You can pick them up for £400 or less now

There are quite a few tuners out there who can remap your car

R-tech on this forum has a good reputation
Celtic tuning
AMD Technic
Revo (I had this and it was excellent)
Superchips Bluefin
APR
GIAC

Just to name a few.

Thanks for the tips.

I think I'll go down the pioneer route as I've always had these and the fact you don't need to fart around changing the CAN BUS. Just need to decide whther I really need sat nav.

As for the remap. I like the idea of the bluefin as you can switch it back to standard but I'm jubious of the fact they seem to give you a generic map. Do Revo do the same?

REVO do a generic map, but it is usually tweaked by the tuner to your own car modifications to get the best from it. You can also use an "SPS+" controller to fine tune yourself if you know what to do (Boost, Timing and fueling can all be altered)

Did you used to be on the R32 forum? Your name looks familiar

Another place for tuning and re-maps etc Awesome GTI in Irlam near Manchester, excellent service, really good people and have been going for years!

Not me. This is only my second golf and the first was a 1.1 GTI lookalike when I was 17!

I'm in Kent so I think Manchester is out of the question. I'm hearing good things about most remaps. I probably should have asked which ones NOT to go for
