Monza Blue Barn Find
« on: 02 June 2011, 08:17 »
I have just bought a monza blue 3 door 16v small bumper 1986/D, apparently its been sat for 5 yrs. We towed it home, put a battery on, some petrol in it and it fired up straight away. Obviously i know im gonna find faults ie the bearing has gone in the fan, exhaust blowing. I need help finding the fault with the tickover. While sat ticking over it idles up down up down fom 2000 down to about 200 but it doesnt cut out just keeps jumping??????. Also the front lights are quad lights im believing to be off a scirroco mk2 american (google images), not to my taste!!. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any ideas how to put photos on here??????

Not too up on kjet stuff but I'd say possible idle valve fault among other things.
If the lights are those square yank things they may be worth a few quid man.

clean the isv out with petrol or carb cleaner, that may help stabilize the revs, also check the throttle mech isnt sticking and it goes all the way back, open and close the throttle and listen very carefully (when engine is of) for a clicking noise as you opperate it ,there is a tiny micro switch on the throttle body that switches the isv on and off

I don't think a semi will give the same results
