oil light flashing
« on: 02 June 2011, 01:40 »
the oil light is constantly flashing, both oil pressure switches have been replace, have had the oil cooler replaced as it was leaking oil into the coolant, and there's plenty of oil in there, and have had the pressure tested and it's spot on...

and also just swapped the 16v clocks that i had in it for a set of the correct 8v ones and it's still doing it...

this is really puzzling me, anyone know what this could be? cheers

Have you had the oil pressure checked.

It would be worth whipping the sump off and giving the pick up a clean. This is usually one of the main causes of low pressure and oil starvation.

as i said above i've had the oil pressure tested a couple of times now, both times it's been spot on

IIRC if you plug them in wrong way around this could cause the light to flash constantly. I could be mistaken though.

It would be worth checking the wiring though just to make sure you haven't pinched anything when reassembling.

the wiring has been like that since i've had the car (about 2 weeks) it's a 1988 model with a 1991 engine in it, and it seems like a lot of the wiring has been messed about a lot. have tried swapping the oil switches over and it doesn't make a difference... :S

The blue wire goes to the sensor with a black collar, the yellow goes to the white collared one. Try shorting them both to earth, and then try disconnecting and insulating them both and see what happens. One way might make the light go off and the buzzer sound, the other way should make the buzzer silent and the light flash. Its supposed to flash at low rpm then switch off at 2k rpm +, so if its a wiring fault it maybe ties into the coil/rpm signal to know when its at 2k rpm etc

so the oil light is meant to flash when you are under 2k rpm? are you sure? :S
