Hello. I've taken the first step towards track car ownership

Hello everyone, i've just bought a mk3 golf gti that i plan on turning into a track car.

I already own a my05 Subaru Impreza modified to roughly 280bhp but the next round of mods was going to cost nearly £1000 including remap so i thought i'd take a different route and get something that might be a little cheaper to mod.
The scooby is my daily driver so the golf is going to be totally track focused so i will be selling most of the interior etc at some point.

Progress will probably be very slow as i don't have a lot of free time but i will keep people updated with my progress with plenty of photos if anyones interested. Although i have modified my scooby and i have owned a golf before i have never gone all out making a track car so this is a journey into the unknown for me. I would appreciate any suggestions/help/advice you guys have.

The thing about the scooby is it needs a remap everytime you change something but i'm assuming the golf will not be needing this kind of treatment.

Is your Sub a WRX? or STi as if its the WRX be so careful with the gearbox I went through 3 of them when I had mine running at 284BHP and they were P1 gearbox which are meant to be stronger,

anyways back to the Golf, if I was you I would do things like exhuast inc down pipe intake FMIC etc.. then get it mapped then you know its set up for the set up have depending where you live depends on who will do the mapping and I would say get a Custom map all the way then its best suited to your car

it is a wrx but its a 2005 not a classic so it should be good for a little over 300bhp on that gearbox. Or so i've been told. Anyway i'm not going any further with the scooby for that reason, i don't want to risk the reliability of the daily driver. So the golf will be the track b!tch.

How much do custom maps cost for a golf? I paid £350 for an opensource custom map on my scooby.

mine was a 2001 bug not classic and the gearbox gave up twice and like i said it had the P1 box and there meant to be good for 300+hp just becareful as its very expensive and when mine went i felt so  :sick:

You dont say if the Golf is an 8 or 16 valve.

sorry its an 8v.
picked it up today.
Good fun to drive but i think i'm gonna upgrade the brakes asap.
Its lowered on Spax springs and got smoked rear lights.

Few niggles need sorting:
Fuel filler neck is rusted. Not the neck just the bit the cap screws onto.
Dipstick clip is broken.
Temperature gauge doesn't work.
