don't have an overall budget but atm i don't have alot since we just got back from modded nats and the partner went abit crazy with his cougar, lol.

it'll probably be a next month thing now, that's if the cougars clutch holds on (lovely surprises them aren't they!!) I need to get having a proper look for a 1.8t then, but what i might do is get a vr6 rip that out put that in the gti then get a 1.8t for the then empty vr6 shell... hm, i don't know.

any ideas of the best places to look for a 1.8t then? :)

Ebay etc really, however you better to get a complete donor car and then sell what you don't need afterwards.

I've found a 1.8t from a mk4 golf for quite cheap!!! Just thinking if I get that now then I can get the rest of the bits and bobs I need when the Cougar decides to play nice, haha.

A4 is no good as a donor as the engine is the wrong way.

Thats a non turbo 1.8 = babba!!
As Wayne said the AUQ from the skoda would be a good base, bout half the price of the AMK/BAM and at a not too shabby 180 ponies, seen the engines go for around £700

Theres an AUQ on the bay at the now, its got all ancillarys and has covered 85k, £850
You will then need a 16v pressure plate, flywheel, gearbox, hydro clutch set up, cable change gear linkage and clutch, if yrs is an early spec 8v you will also need the pedalbox from a later spec car.
AUQ loom and ecu, and, will need to send the loom off for splining into yr existing one to run factory management.
Custom downpipe, cat and exhaust system, FMIC and all its pipework, various brackets, hoses, clamps etc etc etc
Worth it in the end tho

Ideally you want to buy a donor car with the engine still attached. That way you can see the engine running and give it a good inspection rather than taking a big gamble and possibly ending up with a smoking engine or one damaged upon removal.
