You have two engine mounts and then the gearbox to subframe mount aka the dogbone mount
If you're replacing them, get the THS Performance ones; cheaper than OEM but 30% stiffer without compromising smoothness
Worked a treat on my TDI

Could well be the mounts; there should be a bit of movement but not excessive

wouldnt have thought so, just 100% new bolts. Drivers side is £4 for both, passenger side is £2.50.

depends whats gone mate, u can buy new bushes for dogbone cheap, which is what stops your front to back rocking and put new bolts in. all in for £20 i would have thought. Then £6 for your drivers and passenger side engine mount new bolts.
If the engine mounts have gone themselves then you will be replacing bolts again, but from reading what you have said, id do dogbone 1st, spending as little money as you can sorting the problem doing it bit by bit.
Dont know if the 4mo one is stronger as standard for £13?
