Buying a mk 5 GTI - what to look out for
« on: 31 May 2011, 11:45 »
Hi guys,

Just about to buy myself a GTI.  I will be looking at around 06/07 plate for hopefully less than £10k.  I have seen a few nice ones around with 50,000 miles or less.  What do I need to check for? What are the common issues.

Thanks in anticipation for any help you can give.

wheel arch corrosion

HUH

these golfs rust on the arches do they?

must something with the paint on the newer cars from the VAG range, detailed an A3 few months back 07 plate and this also had corrosion on the arches

yet my 2000 Audi S4 is mint with no signs of corrosion

There is a know issue with the MK5’s where the front arch liner rubs on the inside and causes the corrosion to occur.

Must also be an issue with the A3’s of similar age.
