I have had my 3 door GTI for over 3 years and my daughter was 1 month old when I bought the car. I was considering a 5 door but then when I went to my local VW garage and spied the 3 door im afraid I couldnt resist and thought, well its not a 5 door but it will be ok with the 3 doors.

I can honestly say that having the 3 door has not been that bad when transporting the baby (now young child) about. In fact because the golf seats slide forward you can stand in the car and strap baby in the car with ease and you dont get wet! Just make sure you buy a baby seat with Isofix and it will be a doddle getting in and out.

In my opinion your better keeping the car until you fancy a change. If your changing only because you need a 5 door then dont bother, wait till you have enough cash and buy a mk6 GTI in a 5 door or other 5 door car.

Just thought I would let you know my experience of having a child and a 3 door GTI.

My first mk5 GTI was five dr & i now have a 3dr ED 30. No dout about it the 5dr was easier to get people in/out but the youngest is driving now so don't really use the rear seats now hence the 3dr(better looking)imho.
