Removing scratches on car window?
« on: 30 May 2011, 13:26 »
Ive had my windows tinted and noticed theres long scratches on the outside of my windows. I noticed them before but they never bothered me but now my windows are tinted they show up really bad.

Can scratches be removed from windows??

If so, How?

If this is a cosmetic matter I apologise

After reading up a bit I see you can polish the scratches out with a kit but the kit is expensive so anyone know of any other methods that doesn't involve shelling out a fortune on a kit?

Ive seen this, anyone any ideas/comments?

Several options depending on how deep they are.  You can mix Cerium Oxide powder into a paste and rub them out by hand or try Jewellers Rouge.

If they are fairly deep you're going to need to be fairly aggressive.  I've used Micro Mesh in the past to remove scratches where a previous owner had caught a ring or something on the glass and for all it's far better suited to plastics, it did work with a fair amount of elbow grease.

Right ive ordered some Cerium Oxide powder so ill give it a go and let you know what happens

So just so ive got it clear in my head, you just mix this powder with a little water to make a paste then with say, a foam applicator rub the scratches. Wipe off and apply again til the scratches have gone?

Not used it myself but that's how I understand it - they call it CO slurry apparently

OK so tried the Cerium Oxide powder and it did nothing  I mixed it quite thick and polished the scratches for ages with no joy.

Do you think a really fine wet and dry might work? Or will it just make more scratches?
