this part for replacing the trim with cd player and climatronic? SORTED! :)

Hi all i need to replace the dash unit on my golf as its not the best working order. I was going to swap bits over from my other golf however i have seen this which will mean i can then just swap the climatronic, cd player etc over and leave the dash so that it looks better when selling?

Will this fit? I mean is the climatornic unit and air con switch with dials differnet or do they use the same surround?

Dunno if u know but you gotta change all the internals not just the switch and dials???

i think the OP has said he's got climatonic in his old Golf so it should be a simple case and plug and play

If he had manual AC then yes it would be much more than a case of swapping the control part over

Ye I have but my new climatronic is a bit sticky so was just going to do a straight swap but also it has the brown trim etc so was going to get this so that I can replace the horrid brown wood look. Will it work?

There are two types of the surround which you pictured. There is one typ that has the black side trim pieces that are attached to the surround and can't be swapped over or there is the type that you have with the wood trim where the trim pieces just pop off and can be replaced by other more desireable trims i.e net opitc or brushed ali. The surround for both climatronic and normal dials are exactly the same.

If your happy to have the trim just black then I have a surround with the black trim that is fixed to it. You will need get black cupholder and climatronic trim to replace the wood pieces. You could just swap the whole surround from your old car that way you can swap all the trim for the better looking net optic or brushed ali.

Both sets of trim can be found on ebay but your looking at £50+ for net optic and probably £80+ for the brushed ali.

ok well at the moment i just want the black trim but the reason i dont want to swap the whole unit over is that when i go to sell my other gti people may prefer the black plus the wood trim isnt in the best conidition so was thinking of just buying a new surround then just swap the radio, clima etc over?

how much would you be looking for it? any pics mate?

I've got it on eBay with a buy it now of £10. Postage will be about £5 tho. It has the horrible rubber coating on it and would be better it it was resprayed to be honest. I will link ya to the eBay listing later when I get home and can take more pictures if you want.
