Right went out in the golf gti this morning I've not drove it for a week cuss my wife has had it. anyway on my way back home i put it in 1st gear at some lights went to pull off and and stalled it tried again and noticed i couldn't collect 1st gear managed to get it home tried all the gears including reverse and i can only collect 3rd and 4th. I have had a look at the gear box and one of the links has broke.
has any one got any of these as spares cuss i need 1 b4 Tuesday as i need the car for work. i am in stoke-on-trent

same thing happened to me, as a temporary fix if the ball joint part has snapped in half a cable tie holds it nice and tight until you source another.

this happened to me the day i picked my car up from nottingham, drove the 120 mile journey home with the gear linkage held together with a few elastic bands and unable to get into 5th gear! aha gotta love a car that can be fixed with elastic bands :)

bought a tsr linkage kit from ebay £50 inc postage, gets rid of the terrible nylon clips and makes the gears much more precise

great cars! i held my alternator in place with 3 jubilee clips for a 50 mile trip the other day, what fun!
