temp warning light...
« on: 29 May 2011, 14:03 »
i have a 1988 8v gti with a 1991 digi 8v engine in it, and the temp needle always sits and just over half. i've just flushed everything out and had new coolant put in and sometimes the temp warning light will come on, but the needle never goes further than the width of the needle past halfway. then after it's cooled down the warning light will stay on even when the car is started from cold, and then will randomly go back off again sometimes...

i don't think the car is overheating at all as it never seems to be too hot, the coolant never gets too hot and the fan won't usually kick in (i know the fan does work)

just wondered what you guys think as i've only owned this car for about 8 days now aha

cheers

if its the flashing light on the temp gauge then its the coolant level sensor, top up with coolant or replace the sensor i would say.
