My Black Monza II
« on: 29 May 2011, 12:09 »
I finally found a car which gets delivered wednesday from a VW garage. Only problem is it comes with black monza II with a silver lip. Anyone want to swap these for their original finish monza II?

I want to keep the tyres so just swap the alloys.

I need to double check the condition of them when I get the car.

they are original detroit wheels then by the sounds of it, not been sprayed black afterwards. vw offered them as an option mainly in america but available here too. keep em they look good!

Two bits of advice; I used to own a set of these rims.

One, if they are in mint original condition DON'T change the tyres on them. The polished rim will almost certainly get marked unless you have a really really good tyre fitter. Also the painted black finish is quite easily damaged. I just brushed a cardboard box leaf with one of mine when moving them off the car and it put a mark on the black.

Two, they are very rare wheels in this country (fitted as OE to the ED30 on the continent but not in the UK). They don't suffer as much white worm problems as the original Monzas and can be refurbished much more easily. Keep 'em and look after them!

So if you have to change them I'd leave the tyres on if I were you and find another set of wheels with tyres. Unless they're already a bit marked, as then it won't matter a stuff.

Hmm, did not know all this. I really prefer the sliver look, but hate White worming.
I will take more pics when I get the car, they might grow on me.

Would I need to tell my insurance about these wheels?

You probably should tell your insurance company but they aren't a modification, just tell them they are accessory wheels.
Have a good look at them when you get them and report back, I reckon you will get plenty of offers of swaps with original Monzas if you don't like them.

And definately take lots of pics!

I too would keep them. All that black makes the red line on the grill that much more noticeable.
