Right what the hell????????
« on: 27 May 2011, 21:05 »
Ive made a second attempt at removing the scratches and swirls from my black paint work on my Audi A4 and still nothing happened   :undecided:

I used a Kestral DA polisher with 3M compounds and all the correct pads etc etc. What am I doing wrong here????????????????

Ive heard that Audi paint is harder, is harder the correct word? Well I think you'll know what I mean?

Any how am I supposed to keep going over the paint work til the scratches/swirls have gone?

Am I supposed to push down a little harder?

Ive followed the instructions, watched demo's on youtube etc and copied them but still I have f**king scratches and swirls

How much does it cost to get a car professionally done? As in done I mean paint correction.

hi mate, im a fully certified detailer so maybe i can help.

first of all i own an Audi S4 and have lots of experience in VAG paintwork. to say its hard is an understatement. Audi paint is rock solid. to achieve a full correction you will need a rotary polisher due to the fact that the DA cannot produce enough heat. although you should really be getting rid of the swirls with a DA.

its all about technique mate, pick your pad and compound( id say menz 3.02 or FG500) and pick an 18inch square to work in, apply product to paint and rub in to avoid splatter, then slowly(i mean proper slow) go from side to side then up and down(dont worry you have to be really silly to burn through in a DA mate) once you have done the process of 3-4 passes with the DA side to side up and down then inspect the area you have done, buff off and see if it needs doing again. repeat the process until you have achieved correction, beware of to much heat build up in the panels and you should get correction after 2-3X passes with the menz or 3M(im assuming your using FC fast cut +)

see how you get off with this and if you have any questions then feel free to PM me.

No not that deep mate, just light to medium scratches and the usual swirls from poor car washing (before I owned the car)

i also have an Audi A4 estate and 16yrs of valeting/detailing experience , as Grant has said audi paint is rock hard and you need a rotory for this type of paint and need to build up a little bit of heat so it can get soft enough to correct, obviously not too much heat or you will burn through,
have you tryed wool pads? very effective for scratch correction but im not sure on a DA tbh as i dont use them.

work your polish well and keep your areas fairly small and id suggest more than 4/5 passes due to a DA being used and the process taking that much longer.

also when you are at the stage of using ultrafina keep your speeds down and little to no pressure on the panel.

I will give another go using the suggestions I have been given and see what happens. If Im being honest I only give it a few passes and expected amazing results but ill give it 4/5 passes and keep at it til i see results.

Just out of interest, how much would it cost to get my car professionally corrected and what would be involved?
