do bearings squeek when they go?

Hi all,

I got this squeak coming from, I think the front driver side wheel, mainly when turning left  and like an intermittent rubbing sound you can hear when rolling slowly. They tend to happen when the cars warmed up too.

I've taken both callipers apart, cleaned and copper greased the pads (which have loads left on them). This stopped any brake squeal but not the squeak in question.

I just wanted opinions as the only other thing it could be really is the bearing but they grind don't they? Does anyone know if they can squeek when they wear?

Jack it up and spin the wheel, see if its rough etc..

Never heard one squeek, i guess its possible if its dried out or ripping its self appart,  but it would also grumble, and probably would have been grumling a lot before it got to that point.


Sure its not comming from the rear brakes or anything silly?

I'm gonna do the rears tomorrow but I'm convinced its from the front! It seems like the squeel happens when pressure is put on the wheels when I turn left.

It's doing my head in now as I'd got everything else sorted and it drove perfect for a week!

Wasn't the bearings.   

Bent cover plate near bellhousing rubbing on the drive shaft. Must have mashed it when I changed the gearbox!

Sorted now!
