1.8 turbo - Will a remap kill my clutch?
« on: 26 May 2011, 17:17 »
Its actually in my passat, Im told that if i remap it, i will end up killing my clutch, is this true?  you the MK4 golfs also have this problem?  It seems a bit odd for a petrol, i could understand a diesel doing it??

Clutch is very much dependant on your driving style

Hammer it in high gear from low RPM's and it won't live very long

What's the current mileage?  Anything over 100K and a remap could well finish it off  :undecided:

As Rhys says also depends on the map / Tuner

Remap doesnt mean your clutch will automatically be dead soon.. there has been some people who have done thousands of miles on standard clutch.. its all down to driving style like rhys says.. and at the end of the day unless its slipping theres no need to change a perfectly good clutch.. remap your car and if it fails down the line then replace it mate

Remaps just highlight weak parts and speed up the process of finishing them off. Gotta be worth a new clutch though whatever, I enjoyed my new clutch nearky as much as the remap.

The flywheel can be got 2nd hand no probs but the clutch should really be new, I got a Sachs clutch off ebay for around £80 but can be got from ecp etc for £100ish,  the flywheel I just pm'ed people breaking 16v mk3s till I got a responce, £15 posted :)
