New guy with a greeting and a quandary.
« on: 25 May 2011, 21:35 »
Hi Guys, i'm new here, Ben the R-Tech mobile mapper told me I should join up, so here I am!
Anywho, to business!
My car: VW Bora 1.9 TDI PD 150 Sport 2003 Diamond Black, remapped to 200 BHP 300 Torque. Totally standard.
I got remapped the other day, and it has made my clutch start to slip, should I get a whole clutch package, or just a new disk?
Also, can anyone suggest a good merchant/good price? Im on a budget really, but if its needed I can go higher.
Thankyou for reading this, hope you will be kind to a newbie.

i'd go for the full kit for a clutch  saves taking the box off later on and will keep it nice and tight  Dont know exactly but i presume you could be looking at anything from £60 + standard is there anyway of getting any adjustment out of it from cables or hydrolics maybe ?

Thanks for reply mate.
I've been researching it and yeah it looks like it will have to be full kit, gets quite expensive though.
As for adjustments, i'm not very mechanically minded :-(   so I wouldnt know about that, is that sorta thing something anyone with a bit of knowledge can do in their own garage?

no worries generally mate it depends on the car. I dont actually know anything about what kind of gearbox or even if its cable change or hydrolic on your car some cable operated gear changes can be altered a little at the gear box end of the cable it offers a little adjustment to the clutch but as you say if its definately slipping then i'd suggest just get the whole clutch kit changed  Are you sure its the clutch to start with ? put it in fourth doing about 30 and put the foot down does the revs go up alot without much speed increase ? im sure you know anyhow just checking
And yes to buy a kit can be fairly cheap if you know people in the trade etc. And if you have a good weekend spare its possible to do on your own if you own a good bunch of tools and are some what mechanically minded  :nerd: if not to put it into a garage i'd say your looking at a possible £300+ bill depending maybe cheaper again knowing people on the side

I believe you would be better to replace the flywheel as well, then run a dual mass so it make sense to switch to a solid flywheel at the same time.
