Random Service Prices
« on: 25 May 2011, 18:38 »
Started to ring round for quotes today for the 2nd annual service. What a farce!! Started off at the local stealers to get a benchmark and got £288 quoted. Next one who bothered to answer the phone quoted£224 then the last one was £144. Most bizarrely, in the case of the latter they didn't even ask what my car is. They said they do menu pricing now and it's £144 for the 2nd annual service no matter what I drive.
So I saved £140 odd between the first and the last one but why so much difference? They're all doing the same flipping service after all!!!

Yes he should have but its now gone up to £299.

When I ordered mine they asked if I wanted the service plan, I asked how much is a service they said £150 (which is extortionate for an oil & filter change) but it was a bargain while its under warranty.

The service pack wasn't available when I bought mine in May 2009 - it was one of the very first GTis and the service pack came in a few months later.

In any case that doesn't explain the huge difference in price.

I believe any garage can service your car the only proviso is they must use genuine parts for the warranty to continue.

Andy

Agree re the wild fluctuations - it's madness - I was on e of the lucky ones that got the servicing pack.

The reason they vary is that this is where they can charge what they like rather than be regulated by VW

As keith says, any car can service your car as long as genuine parts are used otherwise the warranty is voided - when I had my Audi I used a local independent who was very good both on service and price - not sure if there is the same near you?

I've rung another dealer today and got quoted £164 but will match the £141 cheapest so I'm beginning to get to a more reasonable, consistent price.
How does the local dealer get to £280 odd then for the same service - methinks there's some rank profiteering going on here!!

If it's Leeds VW then Sytner are known to be expensive on this. (They also own Huddersfield - not the best unfrotunately)

Have you tried Halifax VW - always been happy with them for my previous Golfs - Sheffield also good if you're heading that way

Interesting is that Buck as the two most expensive quoted I've had are indeed Leeds and Huddersfield.

The cheapest is Sthingyhorpe and Bradford will match them. In the end I'll head back to Donny if they can match the price.

How on earth then do Leeds VW make any money then? They weren't interested when I bought the car and they're clearly never going to get any business off me for servicing. Ridiculous!!
